- This method of making ropes is still used in our house. We make them ourselves with binding twine. We have a thing like this
You put four strands of binding on each crook. Then a man gets about eleven yards away, and holds the ends of each twine. Then another man gets the handle and twists it. The twister must be between two boards or sticks to keep it firm.
When the twine begins to knot over, a board with three nails is got to keep the twine in place.
Then the man who was holding the end gets a twister like this.
and both twist together till the rope is made.
