- Food in olden times.
In olden times, people had three meals a day - breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast was eaten about eight o'clock after some hours work had been done, dinner about twelve and supper at sun-down.
Before the famine, breakfast consisted of wheaten break or oaten break and sour milk, called sciodar, dinner was potatoes and milk, and supper oatmeal porridge and milk.
It was sometimes the custom to sit around the pot of stirabout placed on the floor, and then eat the porridge. In most cases the table was placed near the wall and sometimes hinged to the wall. The latter kind of table had no legs.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
