- There is a lot of superstition about forts. Several people are known to have suffered by meddling with them but others nothing ever happened them. I heard of a man who had a fort in his land. He hired several men to clear it away. They started to dig and they rooted it all away. They made manure of the clay. They built walls with the stones and burned the timber and nothing ever happened him or his men. Another man went into a fort to level it and as he went near it the horse and cart and himself were turned up side down.
