  1. An old man who lived in Scart named Tom Dalton was a native Irish speaker, and at the fairs of Clogheen, Clonmel, and Carrick-on-Suir, he used to do all the bargaining for his neighbours.
The Waterford people who came to these fairs, mostly spoke Irish. The people of the Bansha district had not sufficient Irish to transact business with them. Therefore Mr Dalton was very popular and his services were very much appreciated. It was very interesting and amusing for the non-Irish speakers hear him and a Waterford man making a bargain.
