Potatoes sown in this parish are,
Epicures/Kerr Pinks/British Queens
White Queens/Champions/Irish Queens
Arran Banners/Shamrocks/Skerry Champion
Arran Victors/Flounders/White Eyes
Arran Chief/Americans
Golden Wonders/Reds
Up to recently Flounders were the principal early potatoes sown around here and Champions for the late crop.
But now the Epicure is sown for the early crops and the Champion has practically died out altogether except in the mountain farms. They say the seed is too old. A new variety has been imported lately called the Skerry Champions. It is not as good a potato as the Old Champion.
Kerr Pinks are considered a very good potato in this townsland and are a very plentiful crop.
Arran Banners are not good for eating but are of such a large variety
that they are very suitable for farmers for feeding sheep and cattle.- Faisnéiseoir
