- On St. Brigid's Day people used to dress a broom and dance with it.
- The sign of the Cross was made (while the Three Divine Persons were invoked) with the burnt end of a hazel stick on the left shoulder of every man and boy in the house. If a member of the family were named Patrick it fell on him to perform the rite. Girls wore crosses made of cardboard and covered with various coloured ribbons.
- Many marriages take place on Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes are made on that night on account of the fast for Lent. A ring is hidden in one pancake, and who ever gets the ring is supposed to be(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
