- 1. "A rainbow in the morning is the shepherds warning." A rainbow in the evening is the shepherds delight."
2. A clear cloudless sky in the morning is a sign of fine weather, and a cloudy murky sky is a sign of rain.
3. A very red sunset and myriads of stars portend frost followed by a fine day.
4. When a long spell of fine weather is about to be broken, people who suffer from, rheumatism, sciatica, neuralgia, and corns can invariably fortell wet weather.
5. Swallows fly low, almost skimming the ground before a break in the weather.
6. In the morning if crows collect around the farm-yard it is a good sign that the day will be wet.
7. Curlews come inland in wet and stormy weather.
8. Wild geese travelling south are a sign of bad weather.
