- About forty years ago a man named Matt Costigan was working with a local gentleman named Major Philips. Matt lived with his aged mother in a small house in the estate.
She always kept some fowl. One day the major found them damaging a field of corn. He approached Matt, and told him that he had a serious row with mother, who would not keep her hens off his garden. "Begor" says Matt, "what can I do with her, sure she is too ould to bate her". - Collector
