Turpentine sprinkled on red flannel and applied to the back - Lumbago

Well heated salt in a woollen stocking which is tied round the throat on retiring to bed - A cold
1. An onion is boiled in a pint of new milk and drunk as hot as possible. The patient must remain in bed for a day or two
2. Bathe the feet in hot water and mustard - Ear-ache
A piece of cotton wool steeped in hot olive oil placed in the ear gives relief
2. Hold the ear over the stream of a jug of boiling water
3. Squeeze a portion of a cut onion, and allow a few drops of the juice into the ear.
4. The centre of an onion heated at the fire and inserted in the ear.
