- Once upon a time there was a fox who lost his tail in a trap. He looked so queer that all the other foxes laughed at him. He did not like this so he made up his mind to pretend that it was a fine thing to be without a tail. "Ho you foxes" he cried. Why do you not cut off your ugly heavy tails and go free like me. Tails are no longer fashionable and besides they may be caught in traps. Cut them off I say." The foxes listened and smiled. We see through your trick they said you wouldnt tell us to cut off our tails if you had not lost your own. Then they all ran off to their holes and left the silly fox to himself
