  1. There was a flax factory in Birchgrove about a quater of a mile outside Roscrea. The flax was grown around Roscrea and sold to Mr Birch. He steeped it in vats which are still in the ruins of the factory. They then dried it was placed on large tables and twisted into coils. It was then packed in large bails and sent to Belfast where it was manufactored into linen.
