    In olden times there was a whole host of dos and don'ts for those who were about to marry...

    In olden times there was a whole host of do's and don'ts for those who were about to marry. First the bride was to make a large portion of her wedding attire, but she was on no account to make the bridel gown, and the girls who sewed it enclosed one of her hairs in the folds if she too, wished to be married soon after the wearer of the goun. When she was choosing her colour she was to remember to choose and wer:
    Something old, something new,
    Something borrowed, something blue.
    White is the commonest colour which the bride wears nowadays. But green which is the fairies' colour was never worn, and they are supposed to punish (and) any mortal who dares
