  1. Though people are strong and muscular there seems to have been no outstanding athlete amongst them, at any time.
    The only one of repute is a modern one Martin Kennedy who competed against Dr. O’Callaghan once throwing the Discus.
    He was promising as a high jumper but twisted his ankle finally necessitating his withdrawal from the athlete field. He is still young, well over six feet high and built proportionately. He has numerous prizes won in Hammer throwing, Weight throwing, Discus, and High Jump. He resides at Friarfield one mile from here.
    Shortly after the Foundation of the G.A.A. there was a football team here.
    Their size and strength made them more notorious than their skill as players. Most of them were men well over six feet.
