  1. Coosáne is the place where I live. Coosáne is an Irish word which means a low marshy place on the bend of a river.
    There is a field near my house and it is called the Guilligán. It was originally owned by a Scotchman named Bathcock. It is now owned by Mr. Timothy Coffey of Coosáne. In the centre of this field there is a large rock. It is almost twelve foot high and four foot square. When any member of the Bathcock family were about to die the Banshee would come and perch on the top of this rock and commence a mournful wailing composed of the following words
    How oft the Banshee cried
    How oft has death untied
    And cling that glory woe
    Sweet bonds of chains and love
    Peace to the faithful eye that weepeth
    Peace to the faithful heart that sleepeth
    May the fair and the brave
    Shine o'er the heroe's grave.
    The wailing woud continue for about ten minutes and the next place it would be heard was at the back of Mr. Bathcocks house.
    She would then depart as she was supposed to be a female. Between that and morning
