  1. Marriages take place in Ireland in Shrove. The girls father go the intended husband's house and tea is provided on their arrival. The chief difficulty in match-making is the money point. They Make bargains and at length the girls father would say, "I'll give £350 along with her" and the husband would say "Give me £400 and I'll be satisfied. Then they settle the bargain and then they go to the parish priest and they settle the day for the wedding. Then the husband goes to some town and he buys the rings. On the morning of the wedding the pair go to the church and the parish priest comes also and they marry each other. After the marriage a great number of people come to the girl's house and they congratulate the newly married pair. Then after a great feast dancing and singing commences and continues until a late hour next morning. THen the pair usually go to spend their honeymoon to some city.
Wednesday is said to be the luckiest day for marriages and Saturday the unluckiest day for marriages. The harvest time is a bad time of the year to get married. There is an old saying there. "The sheaf that is bound in the harvest shall be loost again in Spring" That means that the pair that got married in the harvest one of them should die in Spring.
