Those outside ordered the door to be opened. When the door was opened old Reid shot one of the raiders dead at the door step. The man who was shot is supposed to have come from Lorrha. Years before his death this same Jimmy Reid got his own coffin made, and when the apple season with its supply of fruit arrived the coffin acted as a store room for the apples.

  2. A man named Pat Nolan lived in Firmount, Carrigahorig Birr at the time of the Terries. One harvest time after he had sold his wheat he was visited by a neighbour for the loan of a pound. Pat had the wheat money in a press in a room where the neighbour received what he had asked.
A few nights later after Pat had gone to bed, and his wife was preparing to do likewise a knocking was heard at the door. She asked who was there, and the answer she received was "neighbours".
