  1. Over a 100 years ago there lived in Ballycahane house, a gentleman by the name of Mr. Leake, who was a tithe-gatherer.
    The tax had become so intolerable on the people, that they decided to capture him.
    One night a party set out on horse-back-two to each horse with the hope of capturing him. Failing to break in the doors and windows, they piled straw around the house and set it alight. Luckily enough Mr. Leake escaped through a back window and made for Ballycahane castle.
    Up to the last generation it was known as the "Burned House".
