  1. There is a holy well in Emly churchyard dedicated to St. Ailbe. St Ailbe is the patron Saint of Emly and the people around this district are very devout to him. The ''patron'' day of this well is September 12th and people come in great crowds to give their rounds and pray to St Ailbe.

A story was told about a man who was very devouted to St. Ailbe.
One night as this man was passing the churchyard with a bundle of hay on his back and he forgot all about the well and walked into it. He sank down to the bottom but if he did he was not long to come up again.
He then put a hand to his coat and it was a quite dry.
It was the belief of the people and also of the man that it was St. Ailbe who saved his life.
