Once upon a time two young men lived together and how they used to earn money was by betting. They were two brothers and they used not talk to each other at all because one of them owed fifty pounds to the other and wouldn't give it back. One day John, for one of the boys was named John, was killed at the races and Thomas was delighted because he said he could keep the fifty pounds. One night about a week or so after John's death Thomas was reading a book at the fireside when the door opened and who walked in but John. He told Thomas to send away the fifty pounds for Masses because he was suffering in Purgatory. He then disappeared and Thomas sent away the money. From
