“Some time ago I heard a legend about a lake which is situated in the County Limerick.”
Some time ago I heard a legend about a lake which is situated in the County Limerick. This lake is situated about three miles from Herberstown and is called Lough Gur.
Every seven years a man comes out of the lake riding a beautiful snow-white horse. This man is believed to be the Earl of Desmond. The horse has four shoes which are made of pure silver. When the Earl comes out of the lake he rides around the margin and then retires to the bottom. Now it is the idea of old people that when those silver shoes will wear away from under the horses hoofs this great Earl will come back and take possession of whatever lands he had before he died.- Bailitheoir
