  1. There was a man who lived in Kilfinane by the name of Dan Shanahan. He was the worlds champion hop, step and jumper. Mr Michael Creed was a great high jumper. There was a man by the name of John Flanigan who was a worlds champion hammer thrower. Davy Flynn was a champion pole-jumper. He lived in Clovers. There was a man by the name William O Connery of Ballinanima who was the world's champion long jumper. He used jump across the road below the Protestant church in Kilfinane. The width of that part of the road is twenty five feet.
