  1. Luidin:-
    That portion of the sock of a plough which is turned upward and inward by the blacksmith to catch the forward bar of the sole-plate is called the luidin.
    It is believed by blacksmiths or perhaps more correctly was believed that the sock took heating - that is became white hot - more readily and easily after sunset than during the day.
