Old Rhyme
“Twas like an eagle in the sky when the eagle began to roar...”
Leo of Anhid has this rhyme also. It is identical with Miss Finnerty's version up to a 'point', and there goes off on another route: Here is Ms. (?) version: from the 'point' :- x x x('Twas) like an eagle in the sky.
When the eagle began to roar.
('Twas) like a ship upon the shore.
When the ship began to sail.
('Twas) like a bottle full of ale.
When the ale began to drink.
('Twas)like a bottle full of ink.
When the ink began to write.
Like a young man and fair lady bride".Note: In this and the other version. I have unwittingly put in 'twas, before every comparison. I now observe that in the oral version 'twas is never used. D.C.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
