Once near Carrigogunnel, a man was out very late on his way home from a neighbour's house in which he had been playing cards. It was a bright moon light night and so clear you could pick a pin off the road. As the man was crossing the fields taking a short-cut home he saw the stream of hunstmen sweep across the field in fully tally. The man thought it was a frolic the gentry were having until they came near him, when he recognised among them several men whom he knew to be dead. On they galloped over the usual course, out the same gate as they always used from the field, leaving the man standing in amazement and some little fear after them. But they seemed so merry that he soon recovered his courage and determined to watch for them again and make sure he was making no mistake.
