Holly and ivy well set up.
To the man of the house we wish good luck.
Up with the kittle and down with the pan.
A penny or twopence to bury the wran.
A box of money and a pint of beer.
And we wish ye all a happy new year.

There was a man one time and he was going to town to buy boots for his children.

There was a man one time and he was going to town to buy boots for his children. He had a black cat that was sitting on the hearth, and as the man was leaving the cat spoke and said, "bring me boots also". The man saw that he couldn't bring the right size of boots for the cat and that 'twas better for him (the cat) come with him to fit on the boots. The cat said he would and the man put him into a bag, and mounting his horse he set out for the town. As he was going along, he was rushed at by a pack of hounds. The man dropped the bag, cat and all, and the hounds tore him to pieces.
