Now early next morning, he stood at the gate.
Where some of the fellows had told him to wait.
He made use of the 'brogue' at a terrible rate.
Saying, "I want to find out where they're salting the mate.
Contented he was 'till one evening in bed.
When the thoughts of old Ireland came into his head.
When his heart that was light got as heavy as lead.
As he thought of the days he spent fowling with Ned.
And now Mr. Bill, when you're writing to me.
Address it as usual to 6.43
Describe all the wonderful sights you did see.
In your journey back to the old Country.
Let me know were you sick while going back in the boat.
And how many days did she keep you afloat.
Farewell Mr. William, my letter is wrote.
I remain, yours sincerely, John Marshall the poet.

Somewhere about Athlacca, Dromin parish there was a poet named O' Donnell in the middle of the last century.

Somewhere about Athlacca, Dromin Parish, there was a poet named O'Donnell in the middle of the last century. He wrote a good many songs all of which were set to native airs. I have not been able to collect any of them, but I have learned that the Rev. C. O'Sullivan, c.c. Bruff has made a painstaking effort to secure all or as many of his songs, as have survived.
