Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Ash Wednesday falls on the day after Shrove Tuesday, it it the first day of Lent which holds for seven weeks, and during that period it is a custom to abstain from certain things especially the people of the Roman Catholic church who spend most of that time fasting and praying.

On that day all Protestant schools are closed, but the Roman Catholic schools are open becasue they do not think it right to keep that day as a holiday.
On the morning the priest of the Roman Catholic church burns the palm which is left after Palm Sunday and puts the shape of the cross on the foreheads of the people with it.
It is customary for people to make new resolutions at the beginning of Lent even though people make resolutions at the beginning of the New Year, but sometimes they are broken because of weakness of character and another chance is taken at the beginning of Lent so as to try and strengthen ones character.
