    "Hallow Eve Customs".
    Hallow eve comes but once a year, it falls of the 31st october.
    It is customary with each household around the district of Adare to have a party on hallow eve night. The party begins at tea-time for which it is customary to have a barm-brack, the bakers make these barm-bracks specially for hallow eve and they put the following things in hiding in each one of them - a ring, a thimble, a charm, a pea, a bean, a stick and a rag, and a button. The barm brack is cut and put on a plate in the middle of the tea-table, then each person takes a piece, it is said that the person who gets the ring will be married before long and if a girl gets the thimble it is a sign that she will be an old maid, and the person who gets the charm will be lucky, and a pea means poverty and a bean is that you will be wealthy, and a stick is that you will beat your life partner and a rag is that you will be a beggar and if a
