- There is a beautiful large fort in Duxtown. It is in William Chawke's farm. It is round and very large white thorn bushes grow on a bank of earth round it.
About 24 years ago Mr W Chawke (R.I.P.) went to cut a tree in the fort but before he had the tree cut he got a pain in his thumb. Then the pain continued for 3 weeks. On the last day of the three weeks a bone came out of it
My mother told me this story, she said it was in the fort he got it and it was a clear sign that he should not have cut the tree
