- Long ago St Brigid's Crosses used be made of rushes, and kept in the houses for some time after the feast of St Brigid. This custom no longer survives in this district.Anothr custom which has died out in this part, is the marking of the Cross on St Patrick's Day.Long ago the father of the family used get a little bit of Sally Rod, put it into the fire until it first got red, then he took it up and left it cool, when it became black. He then took off his hat, blessed himself and made the Sign of the Cross on his own arm. The other members of the family also blessed themselves, then the father made a Cross on the arm of each member of the family, with the black stick, beginning with his wife, and afterwards with each child according to age.
On Shrove Tuesday there is always the feast of Pan cakes, one containing the ring. Whoever got the ring would be the next to be married when Lent was over.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
