- Care of the Feet.In olden times people wore no boots until they were able to earn the price of them. It is a very long time since people went barefoot all their lifetime. Children of the present time go barefoot in summer.It is said that the water used in washing the feet should never be left inside at night. Potato water is supposed to be good for the feet when a person is suffering from rheumatism.Mr. Gleeson of Ballinavira, Croagh is the only person in this district who makes and repairs boots. It has been a tradition in his family for a couple of generations.There were far more shoemakers in former times. People preferred home made shoes then as each person could get shoes to suit his or her feet. Now it is mostly factory made shoes that are worn.My father once wore clogs.
