    Sweet Bruree
As I stand on the bridge and gaze all around,
At the little village where our ancient kings were crowned
Beneath me flows the Maigue a sluggish river,
Where the gentle trout rise and quiver,
Beside me an ancient castle stand.
The view from its turret is something grand.
The village itself a beauty to see.
There is no place in Ireland to compare with Bruree.
The houses well kept and spotlessly clean.
Everyone in itself fit to be seen.
    The Last of Bruree
Last night as I lay down to sleep,
A vision before me did softly creep,
A vision I hope I never shall see.
    Destruction threatened on sweet Bruree.
On the cross were the Guards strongly advising
The people to leave, the river was rising.
There was terrible noise and scurring of feet
As the people rushed out of Waterstreet.
Around the cross they stuck like mud,
Watching their houses go away in the flood.
