- Lord Fitzgerald was the landlord of Gurrane, Cooliska and other townlands besides. The property always belonged to his family. He was also a judge and resided in Dublin. He was a very good man but his agent was not liked by the (people) tenants, although he was one of the ordinary people and O'Sullivan was his name. Instead of evicting a tenant, Lord Fitzgerald would, by his influence, get a position for one of their sons, but the agent would injure them as much as he dared, he was "down" on some especially. When the agent would go too far, the tenants often complained him to the landlord. Lord Fitzgerald then came round several times to see things for himself.
