- Several tailors formerly dwelt in the district of Kilmeedy, their names being John Madden, John Madigan and John Ceremine, who worked as tailors in their own homes. Edward Lee went from house to house.
The clothes worn were their own manufacture, the materials used being flannel, twill-tweed and frieze for coats with corduroy breeches.
Woollen wheels were had in every home, and linen wheels in some, the olden peoples used to convert the sheep fleeces into thread for different uses, the wool would be taken to the mill to be carded and made into rolls.
Flax was grown in almost every district, when the flax was ripe, it had a nice blue flower. When pulled it had to be bound into nice sheaves and stooked.
