  1. "Wind"
If the wind blows from the S.W. or from "Poll Gabhráin" (as the old people describe it) it is a sure indication of rain.
If it moves eastwards and north and settles in NE it is an omen of fine weather.
If it moves northwards by the West and settles in NE it is taken as a sign of approaching rain.
    "Sun"
If the sun sets with a blood red glow it means a continuation of fine weather.
If it sets with a yellowish tinge in the western sky, it shows approaching rain.
If it rises with a brilliant colour and very warm it means you can expect rain.
    Moon.
If the moon sits up straight this, [drawings], it is a token of fine weather.
If the moon adopts a sitting posture [drawing] it is a sign of a change in the weather generally for the worse.
A halo (bowsheen) round the moon indicates rain is at hand.
    "Stars"
Stars twinkling in the sky means frost.
    "Clouds"
When they rise in the west and hover over the mountains it shows rain is near.
When the wind blows from the west and heavy clouds appear in the East beware of rain, or as they express it "when the sky is full opposite the wind".
Clouds moving swiftly over the sky indicate storm but little rain locally.
