The care of the feetPeople did not wear shoes in former times until they were getting married. There is an account of a man in New Castle West who it is said never wore shoes.
Lots of children go barefoot during the Summer, and there are some children who never wear boots. It is said that immediately after the feet are washed the water should be thrown very far away or if not the fairies would pull you out of the bed, if the water be kept inside over night.
There is no local shoemaker in my district. At present there is a big decrease in the number of shoe-makers owing to all machine made shoes.Clogs were worn by very few, working men in Winter.
