- The local fairs are held at NewCastleWest and Dromcollogher but in former years the fairs were held at Killmeedy but they were transferred to NewCastle owing to the building of the Railway in NewCastle.
Long ago and even to the present day if there is good demand for cattle, the buyers visit the farmers houses to transact business. The fairs are held on the streets of the town this is probably to help the business of the town. All those that buy cattle have to pay toll, formerly to Lord Devon and now to the town commissioners. When the animals are sold luck money is given but it depends on what the person likes to give. Some of the animals are marked with mud, and others the hair is cut off the side with a scissors.
