  1. Verses by a local poet
Timothy D. Shanahan a native of Monegay composed the following in memory of the late Con Eollins also a native of Monegay who died recently.
Drape the flag of Holy Eire
    For the hero passed away
Show him homage due a member
    Of the fearless I.R.A
Twine loves fondest wreaths and fairest
Round his memory bright and grand
Give him all that glory calls for,
    He was true to Motherland.
    Watching waiting the arrival
Of the Aud with Casement true
    That heart breaking disappointment
To brave Austin Stack and you
As ye trod the Kerry headlands
    Stricken sore neath fortune's frown
and the glow'ring hang dog glances
Of the forces of the crown
Then in a dungeon foul they cast you
Tried to crush your spirit true
With vile taunts and cruel treatment
    Typical of Saxon crew
Through the fire you came unscathed
