One foggy evening a poor boy set out hunting.

    Bridie Ambrose,
    Eneghare,
    Ardagh.
One foggy evening, a poor boy set out hunting. He took with him a horse and two hounds. He had not travelled far when his hounds routed a hare, that had been sleeping in rushes, and he himself mounted on his horse, also joined in the chase. After a long course, the hounds caught the hare, and were about to kill her, when she gave a sudden jerk, and escaped from them, but not unhurt, as they had inflicted a deep cut in her leg.
The night had now fallen, and he found himself in a dark glen, unable to find his way. He lay down by the ditch and was about to sleep when he perceived a faint glimmer of light farther down the glen. He arose and approached the light. When he had come near it, he saw it was light from a very small house. He knocked at the door, and was admitted by an elderly woman, who questioned as to what did he want. He answered that he had gone astray, and that he would be very thankful to her if she would shelter himself and his animals for the night
