    Festival Customs.
    Many feasts take place during the year, in my district, and each one of them is observed in a special way. On St. Stephen's Day, a batch of boys, and sometimes men, gather together and go from house to house, taking with them a dead wren and a little bush of holly, and the people of the house give them money, and they sing and dance for them. They make a lot of money this way, and sometimes they divide amongst one another.
    On St. Brigid's day, the people get candles blessed for home use. On Shrove Tuesday, pancakes and other nice things are made, to say good bye to nice things, until after Lent. On Ash Wednesday, a cross is made on peoples foreheads with ashes. On chalk Sunday, chalk is put on the back of unmarried person's coat's. On May day, holy water is put on everything for fear of piseogs. On New year's night, the people are very curious, watching what way the wind is blowing. for they say if it is South
