Co. Limerick.Old Schools.There is no tradition of hedge schools having existed in my district, in former times. But two old national schools were supposed to have been in it at some time. One of those schools was situated in the site of the present Garda Siocanna barracks, and the other was situated in a place called the yard, adjacent to Ardagh village.The teachers who taught in those schools were natives. English was the only language taught and spoken.Writing was done by the pupils, but only on slates and with stone pencils, obtained from a nearby river or brook.
