- Limerick.1.
Limerick is beautiful as everybody knows,
And by that city of my heart how proud the Shannon flows.
It sweeps down by that brave old town,
As clear in depth in tone,
As when Sarsfield swept the Saxon off the walls of Garryowen.2.
It's not for Limerick that I sigh,
Though I love her in my soul.
But, that the maiden I adore is sad in Garryowen.
It's true she wears no cornets, nor gems those latter days.
She has no fleet upon her deep,
No ship within her quays.
No flocks upon her mountain side,
No herds along her plain.
No gardens rich with Summer's bloom.
No fields of golden grain.
