  1. (continued from previous page)
The wren, the wren, the king of all birds.
On St. Stephen's day he was caught in the furs.
Although he was little, his family was great.
Cheer up landlady and give us a treat.
Up with the kettle and down with pan.
A shilling or two to bury the wren.
I followed the wren from bush to bush.
I followed the wren from tree to tree.
I followed the wren through Kilican Rush.
And I brought him home on a holly bush.
    We have come many miles,
    From over the foam.
To wish you a happy Christmas,
    In your grand old home.
And besides we have brought you,
    This famous old king,
    You all know his name,
And we call him the wren.
We have spent all our money.
And I tell you no lies.
We want a quid or two,
    To keep up our boys.
And if you give it to them,
They will be all in good cheer.
And now we wish you a happy Christmas,
And a bright and prosperous New Year.
