- There were about thirty families living in Ardlamin in olden times. The ruins of the houses are still to be seen.
The names of the principal ones were Nash's. Condons, Scully, and Walsh's and Gleesons. There is about one hundred and thirty Irish acres in Ardlamin which is owned by Quinlans at present. In olden times it was devided into thirty parts, and each family got about four acres each. The houses were very small and contained two small windows, a kitchen and a bed room. The Walsh family sold their land and my father bought it. It is only a short distance from the dwelling house. The old house is used for putting the cross into it in Winter.
There is another old ruined house at Ballyanne, Ratheale, which was owned by (McDonnelly's) Prendervells. There is only the walls to be seen now. Mr Madigan bought this land as it was convenient to him. There is another old ruined house also close to Cooltonin which was owned by McDonnells Mr Madigan bought it for the land was suitable and he puts the cows into the old house in Winter
