  1. Local Heroes
    One of the most famous and beloeved heroes of this locality was Shane Finn. He was at the head of the local "column" who fought the black-and-tans. On one occasion he found against a 'lorry load' of them and succeeded in getting away with his two only helpers. he was killed later at Ballyroe a cople of miles from Ballyhahill. The spot where he met his doom is marked by a cross surrounded by a little wall. His name will never die in Ballyhahill as his deeds are recorded in the following local song
    "At Ballyroe as the sun was sinking
