Common rules for foretelling the weather
1. Brilliant sunshine in the moring especially in broken weather indicates a continuation fo same.

Sets the traveller on his way

3. The cat sits on the hearth and pays special attention to the washing of her face at or before the approach of rain.
4. Sea gulls leave their homes by the coast, and fly farther than usual inland before the wild stormy weather.
5. The flies are busy disturbing the herds of cattle before rain may be expected in summer time.
6. When the swallows fly high in the air good dry weather may be expected but when they fly low it is a very sure sign of rain.
7. In most country houses crickets are found. These never sing as loudly or sharply as they do before it rains.
8. The hills which appear distant in settled weather appear to come nearer as the weather changes
