  1. Folklore - A Local Happening

Among the sad incidents that occurred in the years 1921-22 was one which I shall now relate.

Late one evening a party of Free State soldiers came into my town of Glin. They stayed some time and were marching quietly away when a shot was fired by some person unknown. The shot, meant for the soldiers, unfortunately, struck a young girl named Catherine Hogan who was standing at her door, to see the soldiers march off.
She was fatally injured and died in a few days. It was a very sad occurrence and I'm sure bitterly regretted by the perpetrator.
