- In ancient times people lived in mud cabins, those were very small but tidy, those cabins usually consisted of a kitchen only. People thought themselves very rich if they had both a kitchen and a room. In the kitchen were a dresser, coop for the hens, a few sugán chairs and a settle.
In other places the timber beds were in the kitchen All fires were usually ground fires, sometimes FIRES WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR and a hole was above to leave out the smoke. At that time there were only two windows or maybe one in those cabins. Glass was not to be had so the windows were stuffed with furs or bags. Half-doors were common in every cabin.
