- There is a holy well called tobar na Coille in Mr R. Dalys land in Ballymartin, Dungourney. Rounds are made at this in August. There is a tree growing over the well and a story is told how one day a man attempted to cut that tree. He looked in the direction of home and saw his house was on fire. When he returned there was nothing wrong. The same thing happened the second time. He cut the tree the third time and when he went back his house was burnt.

Up to lately people used to get water out of it. In olden times people used to pay visits to the well and get their children cured of thrush. People used to do rounds to it for penance for their sins and say certain prayers.
