  1. Stories are told about fairies in every country. Some people say the fairies were once up in heaven and when there was a fight in heaven three kinds of angels were present, those who fought for god those who fought against god and those who took no part in the fight. God sent them down here on earth and called them fairies. They wear scarlet caps green coats and buckled shoes. There occupation is shoemaking. Once upon a time there lived a poor shoemaker and he used to get a lot of shoes to mend. Each morning he used to find that all the shoes were mended. This night he watched and say the fairy coming to repair the boots. He stole up to him and caught hold of him. The fairy said he would give him his pot of gold if he would let him off. They both went where the pot of gold was. On the way the fairy told the man to look behind him and he did so then the fairy vanished out of his sight.
    There are several kinds of fairies such as the Banshee, Will-O-The-Wisp, the Phuca and the mermaid. The Banshee is a fairy woman who sometimes cry in a very sorrowful cry. Will-O-The-Wisp is another fairy who leads people astray on dark nights.There are places in this district who got there names from the fairies such as Rathduff, Lissard, Lissavora, Rathpeacon Mourne Abbey and
